3. Bamboo- It is common for bamboo to be used in our eastern homes. In most countries such as thailand, bamboo provides food, tatami mat floor covering, curtains which improve the flow of chi

4.Sound- the vibrations of music, wind chimes, and bells move and help to regulate chi

5.Colour- colour is used to bring the five elements, balance and vitality to our home. It is pure energy in its true form

How to make use of scents in design?

Fragrance is a powerful element in design because smell is the strongest of the senses when it comes to triggering negative or positive emotions. Can you still remember a place where the smell of the place simply delights you?

Certain kind of smell easily trigger your mind to remember specific environments. For example the bread shop opposite my house that smell of freshly baked bread everytime I walk past it. Our memory library begins to accumulate scents from birth. It is where we store our values, feelings and emotions in memory banks that can be triggered by a scent.

Using aroma in Interior design is not a new idea.  The focus of future home fragrance and household products will be custom fragrances that can be adapted to create an ambience and enhance the mood in our home envronments. Here ’s a a tip for you

1) first step to enhancing the scent of your home is to take a honest sniff to learn what the visitors is smelling

2)If any mold or mildew is detected, you must act quickly to remove the source of the problem by sealing the windows, install fans or replace leaky fixtures. This step is critical to both your health and the structure of your home.

3)After addressing the odor, remove any existing residue of bad odor with cleansing agents. On solid surface, such as bathroom walls and tub areas, a mixture of bleach and water cleans mold and mildew with little effort

4)Finally add senory smells that you would like. It can be in the form of air fresheners, candles, potpourri or detergents.

Introduction to carpentry

If you need ideas for moldings, wainscoting, and paneling in those days, they have to be done by the skills of an engineer and the fine finish of a carpenter. However, today most manufacturers will do the hard part for you.

All you have to do is to send in your measurements and they will help you make the materials fit the job. But remember that the more complex the details that you wanted, the harder is it for the installation process. A lot of work can be achieved through minimal carpentry skills, but there are always plenty of well-skilled professionals out there who can help you achieve your dream carpentry.

Some tips:

- Cover the most vulnerable portions of a wall- those areas that come into constant contact with hands, feet ,elbows and other agents of abuse with wood paneling or wainscoting so as to achieve an attractive and decorative wall treatment that is tough enough to withstand daily living.

How to deal with moisture in the house

All the planning in the world can be wasted if you do not know how to drive out dampness. Temperature and ventilation can help keep humidity under control. For old basements, I suggest using a dehumidifier to help dispel moisture and improve circulation.

It is also good to install an automatic sump pump since it can helps to alleviate moisture and stagnant air to prevent the growth of mold and mildrew. In most houses, water is a persistent problem that can be difficult to fix. Hence, do assess your dampness condition of your house and take steps to prevent it so as to save yourself money and frustration in future.

If you notice any subflooring leakage, they are tell tale signs to remind you to fix any faulty pipes and fixtures. If there are any brownish stains on the subflooring, then it means that the leak is not new! Trouble!

Tips for room that is too high

When the ceiling of your room is too high up as compared to the length and wide, then you  must have sensed that something is very wrong here! It is just not uncomfortable and it is so difficult to paint and decorate the space. Hence, bringing a room that is too tall down to size is very important to make it feel inviting and functional.

The first thing that you can do is to add some visual weight to it- to achieve the feeling that the ceiling is lower than it is actually so in order to make it feels more proportionate. How can we go about doing it?  Let me share with you some tips.

1) paint the ceiling a darker colour so that it feels heavier and appear closer to you.

2) For a trayed ceiling (resembling an upside down tray), simply paint the interior portion a darker colour

3)If you have a vaulted ceiling (angled upward on one or both sides to create volume), then try adding some details to it, so as to lend it some weight.

4) Another option that you can take is to add a shelf around the entire room at a height that you are comfortable with. This option allows you to make full use of the spaces

5) Lastly, if you are an art collector or an artist, you can try adding some large art pieces on the middle of the wall so that it acts as a visual marker that keeps the eye from moving up the wall.

The idea here is not to be afraid of being creative. If you have other ideas, feel feel to let me know! Have fun!

Practising good habit by not cluttering your bay

Do remember that it is important to build good habits by curbing the tendency to create excess clutter.

-Replace items once you are done with them. Always remember to return newspapers and magazines to the rack after you have read them.

How to decorate the walls?

Framed art by nature is highly decorative. However, do bare in mind that there are certain norms which should be followed:

-it is not appropriate to hang small paintings alone on large expanses of wall spaces

-to put into harmony the overwhelming sensation that a large painting may provoke, a group of paintings should be hung on another wall. You can aslo put some ornamental objects to the side of the large painting, such as a plant , a lamp or sculpture that acts as a counterpoint

-paintings should be hung with just a single nail

-use a dark coloured frame on a light coloured wall to improve the appearance of the painting

-A collection of objects hung in a vertical line will elevate the visual sensation of the ceiling. Hence, base on this reasoning, if a collection is hung horizontally, the room will appear wider

-The coherence of a collection can be created on the basis of sizes, colours, forms or even the themes of each item

-An asymmetrical arrangement of pictures, if well thought out, can give personality and character tot he environment

How to inject character to your home decoration?(Part2)

120031726_ff2b53d000_m.jpg

What is shape and how are they related to interior decorating? Now a shape is any three dimensional object that takes up some of the available space and therefore modifies and defines it.

Hence, to achieve a holistic decorating effect, it is important to be familiar with the different kind of shapes and the ways they can be arranged in order to get the most out of any rooms.

What is the most important consideration for arranging the various shapes? If you guess circulation, BINGO! :)

The channels for circulation around the house are always the first consideration when arranging shapes. No piece of furniture should obstruct the passage from one room to another or making moving around the room difficult.

If there is a lack of space in the room, you can use your imagination to make the most out of a difficult space. For example, you can try distributing the room differently, choosing dynamically designed furniture that fulfills its function without taking up too much spaces. If possible, you can try using  occasional furniture.

See how to inject character to your home decoration (part1)
