Choosing between oil or water based paint

Most interior paints are wither oil based products or water based. Oil and water don’ t mix so do not try using both water and oil based paints. For multilayered effects, try to use one type of paint.

Oil paints are more lustrous, translucent and hard wearing. However, they are hard to control for the non- professional painters as they require good site ventilation and special disposal methods. Professional decorative painters will love oil based paints as it allow more time to achieve complex special effects. Oil based paint are suitable for brush technique such as combing and ragging, where glaze is brushed on in sections and then manipulated.

Water based paints are non toxix and quicks quickly. They can be easily clean with soap and water. The short drying time can be an advantage because mistakes can be painted over and redone. Hence, if you have an entire wall to cover, use water based paint as it will take minimum time to complete the task!
