Designing your space with lines

Line defines space. Two dimensional space involves flat surfaces, such as walls, floors and ceilings. These are created when lines intersect. When you add depth to a flat surface, space becomes three dimensional to suggest a room. But bare in mind that lines do more than define physical space.

Vertical lines imply strength, dignity and formality.

Horizontal lines suggest relaxation and security.

Diagonal lines express motion, transition and change

Curved lines imply softeness and sensuality

Knowing the meaning of lines, start to select furnishings that will suit the room’ s design. Look for ways to incorporate a variety of lines into the plan!
