Proper planning of kitchen services is essential to make for a safe and healthy kitchen environment. If you are thinking of alternating kitchen services by yourself, do remember to notify your local authority building construction department of any changes you made to the kitchen services layout before carrying out any kind of work.
Here are some reminders if you plan to alternate your kitchen layout by yourself
- if you are just relocating your sink or adding a dishwasher, then you do not need to obtain a permit from your local authority
-dimension of wash pipes and fittings (discharge waste from kitchen sink to soil vent pipe)is at least 40mm with a maximum run of 3000mm long
-kitchen waste pipes must be secured to the wall by using appropriate waste pipe clips
-a bottle trap is needed under the sink to hold water that will provide a barrier to prevent the entry of gases and fumes entering the room from the drainage system.
-This bottle trap needs to be attached to the sink plughole. It will also trap and store materials that can cause blockage problem to the kitchen sewage system
-If maintenance is required, you can remove the bottom section of the bottle trap and clear any blockages
-contact your plumber if your kitchen sink is situated centrally in the island units as the discharge of waste into drainage system is far more complicated.
