A dinning space does not need to be big in order to work well. If you are observant, you would have noticed that table and chairs are tightly packed in any restaurant. This is because, everyone is sitting down for most of the time in a dinning space. Hence, the choice of furniture plays a big part in dinning space.
If the dinning space is not just for dinning but for other purposes, then I would advise you to get an extendable or folding table so that they can free up the space when not in use.
Use paler colour to brighten and visually enlarge the dinning space if you wanted a more spacious look. Likewise, paint it darker for a cozy, intimate ambience.
