When the ceiling of your room is too high up as compared to the length and wide, then you must have sensed that something is very wrong here! It is just not uncomfortable and it is so difficult to paint and decorate the space. Hence, bringing a room that is too tall down to size is very important to make it feel inviting and functional.
The first thing that you can do is to add some visual weight to it- to achieve the feeling that the ceiling is lower than it is actually so in order to make it feels more proportionate. How can we go about doing it? Let me share with you some tips.
1) paint the ceiling a darker colour so that it feels heavier and appear closer to you.
2) For a trayed ceiling (resembling an upside down tray), simply paint the interior portion a darker colour
3)If you have a vaulted ceiling (angled upward on one or both sides to create volume), then try adding some details to it, so as to lend it some weight.
4) Another option that you can take is to add a shelf around the entire room at a height that you are comfortable with. This option allows you to make full use of the spaces
5) Lastly, if you are an art collector or an artist, you can try adding some large art pieces on the middle of the wall so that it acts as a visual marker that keeps the eye from moving up the wall.
The idea here is not to be afraid of being creative. If you have other ideas, feel feel to let me know! Have fun!
