Sanded floors that are to be waxed should be sealed with a coat of polyurethane varnish, or a sand and seal shellac, to prevent the wax from sinking into the wood first. Always make sure that the wax you use is specially formulated for floors and not anything else.
Apply the wax with a cloth, then leave it for 1 hour before polishing it off with a clean dry cloth. Finish by bluffing up the wax to a shine with a soft cloth. Reapply wax as frequently as once a week for high wear areas such as kitchens. However, do note that in most rooms, waxing is needed once every few months.
Manufacturers of wood-strip flooring also supply special water based waxes that can be used to provide additional protection for lacquered floors. These can be brushed or sprayed on and either bluffed up when dry or simply left as they are. So the next time you need to wax your floor, do remember the tips that I recommend today.
