In the past, every inch of wall space was filled with an art piece to create visual interest. Today, the thinking is different. Art is shown to its greatest effect in uncluttered surroundings. A modern painting would be best expressed if it is left alone on a wall.
Displaying drawings or photography have a technique. Make sure that the frame is large enough to accommodate a mat. The frame should be 1 to 3 inches larger in dimension than the picture itself. If you wish to draw attention to a small painting, the rule is to give at least 6 inches of framing space.
Choose accent colours for matting. If you feel that your accents do not work well with the art, look at your room’ s main hues. If all else fails, then you should choose a neutral colour that you like from the work itself to serve as the mat’ s colour.
