In decorating with ,rug the key is to allow at least a foot of floor space on all four sides of the room, thus creating a three dimensional art piece consisting of the rug, furniture and accessories, all set within that foot-wide frame.

This principle will not be followed if you wish to create a soecial use sections within a larger space. In a large kitchen, an area rug
that is larger than your tables and chairs can offset this eating space, seperating from the work space. Using round or oval rug in a small rectangular or square space can create a floating effect for your furniture away from the walls. Thus it helps to enlarge a crowded looking room.
Using carpet tiles can also help to soften the look of a room. Carpet tiles are manufactured in squares of one or two feet and are glues to the sub flooring.
